AWARE is a non-profit agency that provides comprehensive services for survivors
of domestic violence and sexual assault in Jackson County. Services include a 24-hour
hotline, crisis intervention, forensic examinations and evidence collection through
the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program, free counseling, and ongoing support
groups. All services are free, confidential, and available to male and female survivors

AIDS Partnership Michigan is the state's central resource for information and referrals
about HIV/AIDS and the largest service provider in Michigan. AIDS Partnership provides
information on HIV/AIDS or other sexually transmitted diseases and/or referrals
through the toll-free Michigan AIDS Hotline. AIDS Partnership also operates the
Re-Entry Program, assisting prisoners’ transition from the Michigan correctional
system into the community. The Re-Entry Program focuses on assisting men and women
who are HIV+ and who are either currently incarcerated or have been released within
three months from prisons across the state of Michigan, as well as in the Wayne
County Jail. The primary goal of this program is to assist the client’s transition
into the community through medical care, obtaining and adherence to prescribed medications,
case management services, and other appropriate referrals. In addition, AIDS Partnership
offers free counseling and therapy services to any individual who is diagnosed with
HIV and conducts a support group for former prisoners who are HIV+.

The Branch County Coalition Against Domestic Violence/Shelterhouse provides comprehensive

The Victim Assistance Program is a unit of the Detroit Police Department that provides
the following comprehensive services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual
assault and their loved ones in the city of Detroit: crisis intervention; transportation
assistance for survivors to and from the hospital, police precincts, courts, shelters,
and the Rape Counseling Center; accompaniment at the Detroit Receiving Hospital
Emergency Department; court advocacy; short and long-term counseling; support groups;
and information and referrals. Survivors do not have to report the assault/abuse
to the police in order to be eligible for services at the Rape Counseling Center.

The Listening Ear is a non-profit crisis center that provides free and confidential
short-term sexual assault counseling (SAC) services for rape survivors and their
significant others. Other free SAC services include: advocacy, support groups, a
24 hour crisis hotline, and community education. SAC counselors receive nearly 100
hours of training and are available 24-hours a day for emergencies. At the Listening
Ear, a survivor of sexual assault will find support no matter what.

Michigan Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence (MCADSV) is a statewide
membership organization whose members represent a network of over 70 domestic and
sexual violence programs and over 200 allied organizations and individuals throughout
the state of Michigan. MCADSV's mission is to develop and promote efforts aimed
at the elimination of all domestic and sexual violence in Michigan. MCADSV member
agencies provide comprehensive emergency and support services to survivors of domestic
and sexual violence. These services include: rape crisis intervention, emergency

River House, Inc. is a nonprofit agency that serves victims and survivors of domestic
abuse, sexual violence and homelessness in four northern Michigan counties: Crawford,
Ogemaw, Oscoda, and Roscommon. The Sexual Violence Program at River House provides
a 24-hour hotline for immediate crisis intervention. A sexual violence advocate
will stay with the survivor or his/her family at the hospital emergency department
and provide clothing and referrals. The sexual violence advocate is available to
attend police interviews and court proceedings with survivors. In addition, individual
and group counseling are available for survivors and their families. All services
are free and confidential.

SafeHouse Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending domestic violence and sexual assault. SafeHouse provides free and confidential services for any person who has been victimized by domestic or sexual violence that lives or works in Washtenaw County. The Sexual Assault Program provides: a 24-hour hotline, counseling, personal and legal advocacy, and support groups at no charge for survivors of sexual assault. SafeHouse also conducts Safe Circle, a 12-week support group for female survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault who are incarcerated in the Washtenaw County Jail. The group provides support and education about domestic violence and sexual assault. SafeHouse provides services to all survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault regardless of ethnicity, race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, relationship status, veteran status, current or former substance use, current or former involvement with the criminal justice system, religious affiliation, immigration status, physical or mental ability, health status, height or weight.

Triangle Foundation is Michigan’s leading organization serving the gay, lesbian,
bisexual, transgender (GLBT) and allied communities. The Triangle Foundation Anti-Violence
Program (AVP) is a social change and social service program that works to address
and end violence in the lives of GLBT people. AVP provides free and confidential
crisis intervention, information, support, attorney referrals, emergency shelter
referrals, and advocacy to GLBT victim/survivors of violence. To report violence,
contact the reporting line. If staff is unavailable to take your call, please leave
a message and AVP will return your call that day or the next business day. Additionally,
the program offers extensive outreach and education programs. GLBT survivors of
violence are encouraged to contact the AVP Reporting Line at the numbers listed
above. Staff and trained volunteers offer emotional and practical support to victim/survivors

Turning Point is a non-profit organization offering comprehensive services to survivors
of sexual assault in Macomb County and is committed to providing services to survivors
of sexual violence who are or have been incarcerated. Turning Point offers the following
services: 24-hour crisis hotline, crisis intervention, hospital and court advocacy,
domestic and sexual violence counseling, case management services, forensic nurse
examinations, support groups, and information and referrals for survivors of sexual
assault. Survivors who are still incarcerated can contact the 24-hour hotline. If
a survivor contacts the hotline within 96 hours of the assault, a staff advocate
and nurse examiner can respond to the call and complete the forensic exam at the
correctional facility, while offering crisis intervention and support. All services
are free and confidential.

The Women's Resource Center (WRC) provides education, support, counseling, housing
and advocacy - through community collaboration - to end domestic and sexual violence
and promote an equitable, safe environment for all. The WRC provides comprehensive
domestic and sexual violence services including: crisis intervention through a toll-free
crisis line and on-call staff; emergency shelter; transitional and permanent supportive
housing; one-on-one and group support for survivors; support for families of survivors;
referrals to other area resources and agencies for assistance with financial, counseling,
legal, housing and other needs; advocacy with other agencies or resources when needed,
including assistance with personal protection orders and support in the criminal
and civil justice systems; a teen parent program; and a child advocacy program.
The WRC service area includes Southern Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska
and Leelanau Counties and covers nearly 1,700 square miles.

The ACLU of Michigan tracks complaints of all issues regarding prisoner rights.
Letters should be sent to the ACLU Office, and then a decision will be made whether
or not they can provide assistance with a claim. While the ACLU litigates civil
rights issues and is particularly interested in cases regarding prisoner rights,
priority is always given to class action issues, and individual litigation should
not be expected.

The State Bar of Michigan Lawyer Referral Service helps people find lawyers suited
to their particular type of legal problem. Participating lawyers have indicated
the area(s) of law in which they can help clients, and in which counties. The Lawyer
Referral Service provides clients with the name, address, and phone number of an
attorney who is located in a convenient geographic area (only 1 referral per telephone
call), who will provide 30 minutes of legal consultation for no more than $20. The
client and attorney will be able to discuss the case, concerns, or legal issues.
The client must negotiate a fee with the attorney for any legal services beyond
the initial consultation.
