Welcome, Chris Daley!
I am exceptionally pleased to announce that Just Detention International has hired Chris Daley as our Deputy Executive Director, based in Washington, DC. Chris will join JDI on June 1, 2011. In this new capacity, he will lead JDI's dynamic DC-based team, focusing much of his work on holding government officials accountable for the crisis of sexual abuse in U.S. detention.
Chris Daley Chris is a founder of California's Transgender Law Center (TLC). As TLC's first Director, he was responsible for developing the agency and leading its multi-disciplinary work to transform laws and policies affecting transgender people and their families. A highly respected advocate, Chris is known for his strategic savvy, his ability to build collaborative responses to pressing social issues, and his determination to make a difference. Several of us at JDI experienced those characteristics first-hand when working with Chris and TLC to address the extreme risk of sexual abuse facing transgender detainees.
Since leaving TLC, Chris has been in private practice in San Francisco and Indianapolis, focusing on non-profit and employment law. He received his law degree at UC Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law.
