2010 has been a big year for Frank. In September, he spoke in front of a national audience for the first time. When he was finished, many of the men and women listening had tears in their eyes.
Frank was speaking at the 2010 National Sexual Assault Conference -- to a room full of corrections officials, rape crisis counselors, and other advocates -- about being beaten and raped by an officer at the Los Angeles County Jail. Four years ago, after losing his job at a law firm, Frank was arrested for public drunkenness. He was never even charged with a crime, but his life was changed forever during those two weeks behind bars.
"When I was raped, nobody cared. No one wanted to hear it. It shattered my life, but staff pretended it didn't happen -- as if I don't matter. For so long, I thought I was the only one this happened to and I blamed myself.
"JDI told me that I do matter and that I'm not just a statistic. Knowing that I'm not alone has given me strength to move through this and help others. I'm so grateful for JDI. Just having my voice heard means so much. I want to help make a difference for those who are still in custody and maybe going through some pain of their own."
Please give now to help Frank make a difference. Frank was able to turn his life around and become a voice for other survivors thanks to people like you: people who believe that no one, under any circumstances, deserves to be raped and abused. JDI will use your gift, today, to protect every person's right to be treated with dignity.
