Gwyn Smith-Ingley, former corrections leader, joins JDI team
Just Detention International is delighted to announce the hiring of Gwyn Smith-Ingley, former Executive Director of the American Jail Association (AJA), as Senior Program Director. With nearly 25 years of experience in the corrections field, Gwyn will help lead JDI's rapidly expanding programs in U.S. prisons and jails.
"We are thrilled to have Gwyn join our Washington, D.C. team," said Lovisa Stannow, Executive Director of Just Detention International. "JDI has long believed that advocates can work successfully with committed corrections leaders to stop sexual abuse behind bars. Gwyn has been that kind of leader. With her expertise and dedication, JDI's work with prisons and jails will grow even stronger."
Prior to joining AJA, Gwyn served as the first Executive Director of the National Correctional Industries Association and worked as a legislative liaison at the American Correctional Association. A respected policy analyst who has written extensively and given numerous talks about criminal justice issues, in her new role Gwyn will work directly with prison and jail officials to prevent sexual abuse in detention.
"It is an honor to be part of JDI, an organization I have long admired and respected," said Gwyn. "Responsible corrections officials and JDI have the same goal -- making prisons and jails as safe as possible. At JDI, I look forward to continue working to make that goal a reality."
