Action Update: What You Can Do to Stop Prisoner Rape

I am pleased to share with you JDI's new Action Update. In this issue you'll learn about JDI's Survivor Council and the amazing work our survivor advocates are doing to push the U.S. Attorney General to adopt strong national standards addressing prisoner rape.

The Survivor Council is made up of courageous men and women who are determined to speak out about some of the most painful experiences of their lives in order to prevent others from having to suffer what they did. You'll also read about our outreach work with survivors who are still behind bars, and the profound impact that a simple letter of support can have on one person's life.

Responsible officials know that the time to minimize the problem of sexual abuse behind bars is long past. Unfortunately, as you'll see in the Action Update, some officials are still in denial, quibbling with the government's research instead of doing their jobs.

I hope that you will enjoy reading about how far we've come in protecting every person's right to be free from sexual abuse -- and the exciting work ahead. Prisoner rape remains a devastating human rights crisis, yet we know that, every day, we are getting closer to ending it, once and for all.

Thank you for your support of JDI.
